St. Nicholas

This essay
is a Catholic take on the origins and history of Christmas. But it is more than that. The essay was written by Fredrick Wilhelmsen and re-published in one of William F. Buckley's anthologys.

" Wilhelmsen is not satisfied to praise religion. He sees it as Chesterton did, and he is the only American writing today who combines Chesterton's power of historical discrimination and religious animation -- the mystic enthusiasm of the religion of joy, despising the accretions of puritanical dourness, straining to adore: and succeeding."....William F. A Christmas Message

If as Herod, we fill our lives with things and again with things, if we consider ourselves so unimportant that we must fill every moment of our lives with action, when will we have the time to make the long, slow journey across the desert as did the Magi? Or sit and watch the stars as did the shepherds? Or brood over the coming of the child as did Mary? For each of us, there is a desert to travel. A star to discover, and a being within ourselves to bring to life.

The Flying Imams real purpose.

I’ve been following with great interest the developing story of ‘The Flying Imams’. I’m sure that you have read or seem this story on tv. The analysis of this incident has gone through several layers starting with the clerics claiming ‘discrimination’ and developing into this linked plot. This looks like an islamofacist ploy to disable American law from within. Here is the latest development from the reporter who has been following it from the beginning.

Goodby Kofi Annan...(insert rude noise here)

Goodby Kofi Annan and good riddance to bad rubbish. I have a finger for you also.
You've left a ten year legacy of poor leadership, inaction, death, rape and starvation while you and your son padded your wallets.
Can anyone say Oil for Food or Darfur?
Here is the result of a symposium written by UN watching experts on Kofi Annan's legacy.
And a funny "translation from the original bs" of his going away speech in Missouri.

Hu's on first - a video

Shades of Abbot and Costello. You'll get a laugh out of this one.

John Lennon

This Friday, December 8 is the twenty-six anniversary of John Lennon's murder. He would have been sixty-six years old this year. Wonder what he would have done in those twenty-six years?

Also, as a minor aside, this happens to have been the same day that Chris and Mark drank all my wine that I was going to take to Gatlinburg. 'Twas a dark day all around.

Tomorrow Never Knows

Turn off your mind relax and float down-stream,
It is not dying, it is not dying,
Lay down all thought surrender to the void,
It is shining, it is shining.
That you may see the meaning of within,
It is speaking, it is speaking,
That love is all and love is ev’ryone,
It is knowing, it is knowing.
When ignorance and haste may mourn the dead,
It is believing, it is believing,
But listen to the color of your dreams,
It is not living, it is not living.
Or play the existence to the end.
Of the beginning, of the beginning.
Of the beginning. Of the beginning.

…..from “Revolver” (Lennon/McCartney)

"You're just left with yourself all the time, whatever you do anyway. You've got to get down to your own God in your own temple. It's all down to you, mate." - John Lennon

Doggie Disguises

If your Doberman is freaking out your neighbors you can now make him look like a poodle. Your dog, not your neighbor.
Note to _a_, this would be good for Delores. Check this out.
